Saviour of the World, Save us

So short a time upon this earth
Jesus, man, who dwelt with us.
You strove to show us how to live,
How to serve mankind, and give
Peace and love and honest living,
To cherish all the gifts around us.
Yes, you strove mankind to save,
But you yourself, you could not save
From the wickedness and greed,
From the jealousy and power
That your tormentors inflicted
On your body, mind and soul.
Was it worth the pain and suffering?

Saviour of the World, Save us

Have we turned from sin and strife?
Have we learned to love our brother
What 'ere his colour, creed or life?
Wars and murders, disasters famine,
They in our world are all so rife.
Come again and dwell among us
Come and help us in our plight.
Jesus, God in Heaven, Risen Lord,
Re-new our faith and give us peace
In our hearts - our homes - our world
Save us from each other
Saviour of the World, Save us!
